Double Play  Artist  Spiraea japonica 'Galen ppaf, cbraf'

One of the main goals of the Proven Winners ColorChoice program is to extend a shrubs color interest beyond the date of flowering. The new Double Play spirea Series does just that. In addition to vibrant flowers, these new introductions turn a double play by providing absolutely stunning foliage especially in the spring when they first break bud.

You will love this plant from the moment it flushes in the spring. The blue-green foliage emerges a rich purple red setting it apart from all other plants on the farm. The flowers are as rich, pure pink unlike any other Spirea. The plant is a compact, full bodied mound.

Hardiness:  USDA Zone 4

Bloom Time:  Spring, repeating until frost

Bloom Color:  Large, purple blooms

Foliage Color:  Superb foliage flushes an attractive red and changes to blue-green. Very unique.

Fall Color: Rich shades of red

Size:  24"-30" tall.  Habit is very neat.

Exposure:  Full sun is ideal. Will tolerate partial shade

Soil: Average, medium moisture, well drained soils.

Pruning: Best if done after blooming in mid-summer. To promote flowering, remove faded flower clusters (or deadhead).

Watering: Medium moisture.

Wildlife: Butterflies

Type: Deciduous

Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees & shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

Uses: Groupings or masses, perennial or shrub borders, specimen.

Breeder:  Spring Meadow Nursery

A good replacement for Spiraea 'Anthony Waterer'
