 FIRE BALL®     Burning Bush

An improved selection of 'Compacta' with tighter branching and superior stem hardiness. 

In Michigan we have observed no winter damage even after the coldest of winters, while at the same time we have seen dieback on the cultivar 'Compacta'.

Hardiness:  USDA Zone 4

Bloom: Not Applicable

Foliage:  Green leaves turn a vivid scarlet in fall

Size:  5-7 feet tall, 3-5 feet wide

Exposure:  Full sun

Soil: Tolerant of most soils except extremely wet conditions. pH adaptable.

Pruning: Withstands heavy pruning. Can be done whenever, but best done in late fall.

Watering: Medium moisture, does not tolerant drought.

Wildlife: Songbirds

Type: Deciduous

Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees & shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application. Fertilize will prime the plant to have a good growth flush in spring to its maximum potential.

Uses: specimen, hedge or screen, winter garden.

Other varieties of burning bush may experience stem die-back during harsh winters; FIRE BALL® burning bush has had no winter damage even in the coldest of winters.

FIRE BALL® burning bush has the brilliant red fall color to be expected of burning bush.  Plant it among spring and summer flowering shrubs for a jolt of color in the fall,

The slightly more compact habit makes it a better fit in the landscape than other varieties, which may reach up to 10 feet in height.  FIRE BALL® will only get about 7 feet tall.
