A great new dwarf weigela with dark burgundy foliage.
Midnight Wine®
weigela changes the way we think about
and use shrubs.
This beauty can be used as you would use a low mounding perennial or annual,
or use it in mass as a ground cover. The uses are endless and the color is
nonstop.
Plant it in full sun to partial sun to achieve the best foliage color.
Another great plant from Herman Geers of the Netherlands.
Soil:
Extremely adaptable, but prefers Well-drained soils.
Pruning:
Best if done immediately after flowering. Also flowers sporadically on
current season’s growth.
Watering: Medium moisture.
Wildlife:
Hummingbirds & butterflies
Type:
Deciduous
Fertilizing:
Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer
specialized for trees & shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of
application.
Uses: Shrub borders,
grouping, masses, specimen and containers.
Breeders:
Herman Geers, the same breeder of Weigela WINE & ROSES® weigela.
Intense Purple-Black foliage provides season long interest and
color!
Small, dwarfing habit makes MIDNIGHT WINE® weigela perfect for
use in the front of the border or for edging. Also great in perennial
beds.
The tidy mound of dark purple foliage can be used as an accent
plant or a dramatic mass planting. Consider it instead of crimson pygmy
barberry: MIDNIGHT WINE® weigela doesn’t have any thorns!
