MY MONET    Weigela f. 'Verweig' pp#16,824

Little Plant Big Impression!

An artistic new weigela that grows on 12-18" tall. Colorful green, cream and pink foliage provides season long interest while bright pink blooms in spring are the icing on the cake.

This will plant change the way you think about and use shrubs. This beauty can be used as you would use a low mounding perennial or annual, or use it en mass as a ground cover. The uses are endless and the color is nonstop.

What People are saying ...

I just love this plant. When I bought it I did not know that the foliage was going to turn pink, the leaves were cream and green when I first got it. As the summer progressed the leaves have become more and more pink. How cool it that. It looks great in my perennial garden planted along side Lambs ears. - Erica S., PA, Zone 5

I loved it when I saw this at the greenhouse. Not sure what happened but within 1 month of planting the leaves turned brown and it died. It was doing well the first couple of weeks. Not sure what happened, possibly my dog used it as a potty, so I guess my comment is, it does not survive dog urine. Tina, OH, Zone 5

I was very disappointed with this plant last year. I planted it in full sun and the edge of the leaves turned brown. This year is a whole nother story. It bloomed beautifully in the spring and the foliage stayed nice all summer long. In fact it got more colorful in the summer, shades of pink. It was worth the wait.  Karin, MN, Zone 4

Hardiness:  USDA Zone 4

Bloom Time:  Spring

Bloom Color:  Purplish – pink

Foliage Color:  Variegated, green with white margins. New growth displays pink highlights.

Size:  12 – 18 inches

Exposure:  Full sun to partial shade, partial shade in Southern climates and full sun in cooler Northern climates.

Soil: Extremely adaptable, but prefers moist, well-drained soils.

Pruning: None typically required. Best if done immediately after flowering. Also flowers sporadically on current season’s growth.

Watering: Medium moisture.

Wildlife: Hummingbirds & butterflies

Type: Deciduous

Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees & shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

Uses: Shrub borders, grouping, masses, specimen and containers.  Great little shrub for the front of the perennial garden. Use as you would Silvermound or purple-leafed Heuchera. Or use it instead of annuals in your mixed shrub border.  Use in mass to to great drifts of texture and color. Have fun!

Cultural Notes: This weigela goes dorment and looses it leaves earlier in the fall than other weigela varieties. This actually make the plant extra hardy.

Awards: Best in Show selected at FarWest Show, Plantarium Gold medal

Breeder:  Bert Verhoef of Hazerswoude, Netherlands

This dwarf masterpiece is a sport of Weigela florida ‘Tango’. Its tight habit and colorful foliage makes it very versatile. Possible applications include an artistic drift along the edge of an annual or perennial bed or an accent piece in an impressionist container. My Monet weigela creates poetic beauty in any landscape and adds a splash of color to semi shady areas.
