A great landscape plant, FINE LINE® combines the feathery foliage of ‘Aspenifolia’ with the narrow upright habit of ‘Columnaris.’ Use FINE LINE® in narrow hedgerows for privacy, as an accent plant, or even in a patio container. It’s a great vertical accent for the perennial garden, and the narrow habit is perfect for framing entrances. This is an extremely useful, architectural plant for the home or commercial landscape. This cultivar produces very few fruit, none of which have been shown to be viable. FINE LINE® is a responsible and environmentally friendly replacement for weedy, older varieties.
Very adaptable, prefers well-drained soil. No pruning is usually required, but may be pruned in late fall to remove dead or broken branches. Medium moisture, can tolerate dry conditions once established. Attracts birds in the fall. Fertilize in early
This is one tough plant. I don't protect or water it in my zone 3 area. My soil is on the dry side, and it's in the sun almost all day. It's very healthy, though a bit slow growing, but in my zone a lot of things are a challenge. This is an elegantlooking plant, I will be purchasing more in the future.
This plant is extraordinarily hardy and versatile. We live in zone 5 on a VERY windy hill, I have used this plant as a patio accent and have planted larger ones on the wind side of the house where they survived a very cold and unpredictable winter (cold, warm, cold warm) in a semi-shady area that is heavy clay. I now have several because they grow quickly enough and I can move them around in pots to provide center pieces for various locations on our deck. The plant is quite airy and beautiful. I winter over the pot plants in the ground and when I remove them in the spring, I just provide them with a larger pot and some new soil. They're tolerant of everything; bugs, drought, wet, wind, cold, hot, in pots, out of pots, clay, and potting soil, I've been using them for 4-5 years without any problem.
