Description

Blazing color on a native plant. Kodiak® Red diervilla offers attractive red spring and autumn foliage, with red tones on new growth all summer long. Bright yellow flowers appear from late spring through fall. This fast-growing, vigorous North American native is unbothered by pests or diseases. Sometimes known as bush honeysuckle, which is a bit of a misnomer, so we prefer using diervilla as the common name.

Soil

Adaptable to any soil, except excessively soggy sites.

Pruning

Blooms on new wood so spring pruning is best. Needs little regular pruning; however, benefits from rejuvenation every 3-5 years.

Uses

Ideal for mass plantings of all types: hedges, foundation, wildlife gardens. Very well suited to filler material in cut flower productions

Growing Tips

Diervilla is one of the most shade tolerant shrubs, however, blooming and foliage color are best with some sun. Vivid fall foliage, particularly in fall, makes it a nice alternative to burning bush.
