Description

The first ever sterile dark-leafed barberry!

We are pleased to introduce Sunjoy Mini Maroon® sterile dark-leafed barberry. It offers the same rich color and versatile habit you expect from barberry, but with absolutely no nuisance seedlings to spread around. Though it flowers and produces fruit, the seed is not viable. Foliage emerges red in spring, then matures to purple as the season progresses, often acquiring an appealing green margin along the way.

Soil

Any well-drained soil will do; tolerates dry conditions once established.

Pruning

Barberry does not take well to hard pruning. However, it may be trimmed as needed in late spring/early summer. Avoid cutting into thick wood unless you are removing entire branches.

Mixed borders, ground cover, edging, foundation plantings

Growing Tips

Naturally grows as a low rounded mound without pruning. Tolerates urban conditions; does not spread.
