'Henry Hicks' is the hardiest selection of our native evergreen sweetbay magnolia. Creamy white lemon-scented flowers stand out from the handsome, glossy foliage in May and June. This is a magnificent large shrub or small tree that tolerates shade and moist soils. Introduced by Joe McDaniel of the University of Illinois.
