General Care
Soil
Its common name, river birch, reveals its preferences: it likes moist, even wet soils and often grows near rivers in its native range. That said, it is quite adaptable, particularly in cooler areas.Pruning
Little pruning is required. However, like most birches, it should not be pruned in early spring.Uses
Due to its size and striking habit, it is typically best used as a specimen or in a small grove on larger properties.Growing Tips
May be a small, multi-stemmed tree or single stemmed, depending on grower's treatment. Exfoliating bark is natural and is part of the plant's appeal.Features: Fall interest, Native, Deer resistant, Winter interest, Dwarf, Clay soil, Tree
