'William Penn' is an evergreen barberry with lustrous dark green foliage which turns a pleasing bronze in winter. Numerous, showy, bright yellow flowers in April and May. The thorns are formidable, but it is an extremely handsome plant and can serve as effective crowd control or security.

Any well-drained soil will do; tolerates dry conditions once established, though not as well as more common types of barberry.Pruning
