Forsythia can be take for granted.
I'm guilty of this. I forget how many of them there are in the world until they burst into bloom in spring. Yet it's a very useful plant aside from its cheerful flowers. It will grow in most soils and is tolerant of conditions that many other plants do not like, including clay soils, air pollution and black walnut. It's fairly deer-resistant, too.
