The stems of 'Cardinal' Cornus (C. sericea, formerly known as C. stolonifera) change from coral in fall to a deep cherry red in winter. Developed by the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, this hardy, deer resistant shrub is excellent for landscaping or as a cut branch. It grows in full sun or part shade and is adaptable to wet soils.

To maintain best stem color, keep primarily to just one and two year old stems. The entire plant can be cut to stumps each spring (note that this will remove flowers), or one-third of the oldest branches can be removed at ground level each spring.Uses
