Description

The Rikki Tikki® series of crapemyrtle was developed here at Spring Meadow by Megan Mathey. These versatile crapemyrtles combine a dense, compact habit, colorful foliage, bright flowers, hardiness, and disease resistance. Rikki Tikki® Rouge lagerstroemia blooms all summer with deep purple-red flowers that make an appealing contrast with the silvery-black foliage.

Soil

Moist, well drained soils are best, but crapemyrtle is widely adaptable, including to compacted urban soils.

Pruning

Blooms on new wood. Dwarf habit requires little pruning. In colder climates, remove any dead wood in spring, after the new growth has begun to emerge.

Uses

Specimen; containers; foundation plantings; mixed borders/perennial gardens.

Growing Tips

Hardy down to USDA zone 6 - may die back to the ground, but resprouts from the roots and blooms that same summer.
