Description

A hardy evergreen for year-round interest and structure. Sasquatch™ Dark Green arborvitae is an impressive force in the garden and landscape, tolerating heat and drought as well as bitter cold winters. ‘Nigra Dark Green’ arborvitae is noted as the hardiest, most resistant to winter burn arborvitae on the market, but it is also known for producing too many seeds, which can be ugly and stunt growth. Sasquatch™ Dark Green is a nearly seedless selection, solving this significant issue while also delivering improved growth and habit. With this Thuja occidentalis, you truly get the best of both worlds. Selected by Alain Brodeur of Pépinière du Jaseur from thousands of 'Nigra' seedlings over a 40-year span, Sasquatch™ Dark Green thuja was the clear winner.

Pruning

Does not strictly require pruning, though it does tolerate it well. Prune in spring before new growth begins.

Uses

Hedges; screening; mixed borders; foundation plantings; specimen.

Growing Tips

Tolerates heat and drought once established. Keep watered after pruning to minimize browning; this is also an effective strategy to minimize winter damage to foliage in cold areas.
